Girlfriend Pregnant? This is only the beginning.
My name is Chris. When I was 20 years old I found out my girlfriend was pregnant. We had one of those “this relationship is going nowhere fast but the sex isn’t bad so I’ll put up with your bullshit long enough so I can have a booty call whenever im blacked out, hammered drunk like an old war vet” type of relationship. Not good.
Fast forward four years. I have the most amazing and beautiful daughter in the world. I know, every parent thinks their kid is the best. The problem is that it’s difficult to be a responsible Dad when your ex, the State and the Department of Economic Security’s Child Support Division all fight against you. I wasn’t always around for my kid, but now I am and want to do things right.
I called it quits with my ex-girlfriend when our daughter was three months old. Our relationship wasn’t great before having a child and it only worsened post-kid. After a year or so of “working things out”, my ex-girlfriend finally did the inevitable and filed for child support. No big deal I thought, what’s the worst that could happen? My credit score went from a rockstar 810 to a “I don’t qualify for a payday loan” 564, my savings and 401k dried up like the Salt Flats and my wages were garnished to the tune of over $800 per month when I was only netting $2,100. I couldn’t make ends meet. The courts decided I owed over $12,000 in back child support – plus 10% interest on top of that. It became clear that the courts had no interest in establishing physical or legal custody or what was in the best interest of my child. They wanted the green.
Needless to say I have been through the ringer. I have fought my ex-girlfriend, Judges, family law attorneys and District Attorney’s to do what is right for my little girl. I knew this situation was going to be rough, but I had no idea it was going to be a classic Saturday night shit show.
This website is here not to publicize my sob story to the masses, but to aid everyone else who makes the same mistake I did – taking my baby maker out of pants before I was ready to have a child – and how to cope with your baby’s mama drama, lazy lawyers and the unjustified family law system all without hitting the bottle every night.
I hope this information helps you make the decisions that are right for you when you find out your girlfriend is pregnant. There is light at the end of the tunnel and this website will help you get there faster. If it doesn’t, let me know and I’ll turn up the brightness.
